چکیده

Timber processing industries generate enormous waste, which constitutes environmental nuisance. However, the sawdust contains several organic compounds that could actively remove heavy metal ions from an aqueous solution through adsorption process. This study investigated efficacy of Albizia zygia and Gmelina arborea in removing Zinc (II) under two factors affecting adsorption, Contact time pH. Sawdust samples were sieved a screen size 2.0mm, after portion for each species was subject to pre-treatment by boiling while other parts kept as control (untreated). The effect pH on removal efficiency biosorbent determined adding 0.2g (treated untreated) into six conical flasks containing (50ppm) at different values. There significant difference both treated untreated species. Removal also increased with time, maximum Zn biosorption achieved 90 minutes. reached optimum 4. Both species' (Albizia = 17.22, 17.92) compared favourably used previous studies. From this based availability, cost-effectiveness, ability be recovered reused, are proven alternative adsorbents treatment water towards ensuring quality is available humans, plants, animals.

Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Biosorption Processes

Due to the disadvantages of heavy metal removal from aqueous sytems by conventional methods, alternative new methods have been investigated lately. Biosorption is one of these new methods. In this method, metal ions are transported into cell structure, and removal is ensured by several mechanisms that occured between living or non-living microorganisms and metal ions. The metal removal, the use...

Adsorption of Lead from Aqueous Solution by Modified Beech Sawdust

Sawdust is now being investigated as an adsorbent to remove contaminants from aqueous solution. Heavy metals can be decreased very effectively with the organic material. In this research, adsorption of Pb (II) onto modified beech sawdust in a batch system was investigated. Sawdust was collected from timber mill of Qom, Iran, and modified with H2SO4 and NaOH. Then, the effe...

Biosorption of Ni (II) ions from aqueous solution using leaves of Araucaria cookie Factors influencing the Biosorption of Nickel

The aim of the present study was to reduce the Ni (II) ions present in the waste water which is highly toxic to the environment. Biosorption experiments were carried out in a batch process which includes the factors like pH, contact time, size variation, adsorbent dose and metal ion concentration. The maximum percentage removal of Ni (II) ions in the aqueous solution is 96.95 % at pH 6 and cont...

Biosorption of Cu(II) Ions from Aqueous Solution by Red Alga (Palmaria Palmata) and Beer Draff

In this study, the ability of red alga (Palmaria palmata) and beer draff (brewery waste) for Cu(II) removal was investigated. The influence of factors, such as pH, initial copper concentrations, and contact time, were also studied. Results showed the adsorption process was strongly dependent on the pH value and initial concentration. The optimum pH value was in the range of 5-6. The Langmuir is...

Biosorption of Copper Ions from Aqueous Solution by Flammulina velutipes Spent Substrate

To remove heavy metals from aqueous solution and reclaim valuable materials from mushroom byproducts, Flammulina velutipes spent substrate (FVSS) was developed as a novel biosorbent for copper ion removal. Batch experiments demonstrated that ion removal was pH-, biosorbent dosageand initial metal concentration dependent. The maximum removal capacity of 15.56 mg/g was achieved at pH 6.0 with a b...
